Nadroga Beats Nadi at home in round 8 of the Digicel Cup

Nadroga remained second on the Digicel Cup points table after overcoming neighbours Nadi 25-16 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.

The Stallions scored three tries while Nadi’s lone try was scored by wing Watisoni Gonewai after outpacing the opposition to the tryline.

Nadi came out firing and played with vigor and determination in the opening 40 minutes but allowed Nadroga to dominate proceedings in the second spell.

Two scoring opportunities for Nadi went begging as the hosts tightened their defence in the second spell.

The Stallions were playing without most of their senior players as the coaching staff gave the young players a chance to showcase their talents.

Coach Esala Nauga said he was satisfied with the performance of his players.

“Even though some senior players have chosen to move to Suva, I believe we still have enough depth in our team to fill their shoes.

“We have an abundance of talent in Nadroga,” said Nauga

Nadi manager Alfred Qoro said they would need to go back to the drawing board before playing Namosi next week.

“We have to cut out on our mistakes and hopefully win our next three games and also earn bonus points if we want to secure a berth in semi-finals,” said Qoro.
