Team encourages Fiji and all viewers to contribute

Thursday, 04 February, Fiji: The Digicel Fiji 7s team will be wearing special red armbands throughout the Wellington leg of the IRB 7s World Series this weekend to raise awareness of the DIGICEL HAITI RELIEF FUND, which aims to help rebuild Haiti following the devastating earthquake that occurred three weeks ago.

Coach of the Digicel Fiji 7s team, Iliesa Tanivula said, “When Digicel asked us to show our support for the people of Haiti by wearing the armbands, the boys were delighted to help and put their weight behind this very important campaign.”

Matt Davey, CEO Digicel Fiji explained the significance of wearing the armbands.

“Red is one of the National colours of Haiti  and of course of Digicel itself.  The display of solidarity by the team is just one of many initiatives across our thirty two operations worldwide aimed at supporting the DIGICEL HAITI RELIEF FUND.  Digicel has very strong links with the people of Haiti as the largest mobile operator in the country.  We are committed to helping the relief efforts and now the focus must shift to rebuilding the country.”

The Digicel Fiji 7s team earlier recorded a message of support, calling on the public to donate to relief efforts in Haiti. This video, as well as many other video messages of support can be viewed at www.facebook.com/helphaiti.
