Digicel send-off for Fiji Rugby 7s Team

Digicel, the fastest growing mobile company in the Pacific, today hosted a special lunch for the Fiji 7s Rugby Team before their departure to the Rugby World Cup in Dubai.

The special gathering included the Fiji 7s team, FRU officials, Digicel customers as well as members of the media, and took place at the Holiday Inn Plaza in Suva. The players and management team arrived at the hotel at lunchtime and were greeted with a warm welcome from the 50 guests present. The fairwell lunch was organised by Digicel as a gesture of support for the players and coaching staff.

Digicel Fiji CEO John Delves welcomed everyone to the lunch, opening with a few words of encouragement. “Digicel are proud sponsors of Fiji Rugby and we are delighted to host this gathering to show our support and encouragement of the Fiji team. We know that everyone present will join us in wishing them the very best of luck in the World Cup in Dubai.”

The Fiji Rugby team won the Melrose Cup in Hong Kong at the 2005 World Cup and guests gave a rapturous response when John said, “I am looking forward to seeing the Melrose Cup again in Fiji – where it belongs!”

Fiji Rugby team manager, Timoci Tavanavanua then said Grace before lunch commenced and guests were treated to live music from Kiti Niumataiwalu’s band.

After lunch, Fiji Rugby Union President Ro Filipe Tuisawau, echoed John Delves sentiments of encouragement and said “We would like to thank Digicel for hosting today’s lunch, and for their support to the players and coaching staff. I am happy to say the team are feeling relaxed and in good form ahead of the games. Today’s gathering is testament of the support and belief in them by our sponsor”.

One lucky guest won a signed Digicel Fiji Rugby jersey before Timoci Tavanavanua announced last minute team changes to a delighted media presence.

The Digicel Fiji Rugby team depart for Dubai from Nadi on Friday morning for the Rugby World Cup Games which will be held on March 5th-7th in Dubai.
